TMD and EGAT to exchange weather knowledge to enhance power system security sustainably

TMD and EGAT signed an MOU to exchange information on meteorology and hydrology to develop a forecasting system for electricity demand and electricity generation from renewable energy to enhance stability and security of the power system.

Dr. Chomparee Chompurat, Director-General of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), and Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to exchange information on meteorology and hydrology on June 13, 2023, at the EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Dr. Chomparee Chompurat, Director-General of TMD revealed that TMD has a mission of weather forecasting, natural disaster warning, and providing related information for the benefit of the public, such as agriculture, fishery, irrigation, water management, and tourism. This cooperation will help both parties exchange information and knowledge on creating services that meet the demands of all sectors, enhance competitiveness, build power system security, and sustainably develop the country in the long run.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor added that the exchange of information and knowledge on meteorology and hydrology between TMD and EGAT will help the forecasting of power demand, planning of renewable energy generation, and water management of EGAT dams to be efficient and stable, resulting in reasonable electricity price for the public. Moreover, it will help enhance power system security as well as take care of the environment sustainably.
