Thailand Enhances Regional Economy through 2025 Border Trade Expo in Chiang Mai


The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT), successfully hosted the “Border Trade Expo 2025 @ Chiang Mai” from 22 to 28 July 2025. The event aimed to strengthen economic resilience and expand trade opportunities for businesses and SMEs along the northern border and special economic corridors.
For the first time, the DFT brought together over 150 booths featuring entrepreneurs from more than 50 provinces across the country. Traditionally part of the Lanna Expo for upper northern provinces, this year’s integration marked a major step in connecting regional value chains and promoting nationwide participation. 
The exhibition generated strong interest, with daily sales exceeding one million baht and total on-site sales reaching 9.24 million baht. Highlighted products included home décor, packaged food and drinks, cosmetics, fashion, and wellness items. The Department of Intellectual Property also introduced “IP Mart,” a new platform promoting the trade of intellectual property assets.
In addition, the Expo featured business-matching activities between Thai entrepreneurs and foreign buyers from countries including Singapore, China, India, and Hungary. A total of 39 business matches were held, leading to projected purchase orders worth over 50 million baht within the next six to twelve months.Knowledge-sharing was also a key focus, with over 400 participants attending seminars on topics such as export readiness, the use of AI in market development, local products in the modern economy, and support for SMEs entering border markets.
Minister of Commerce Jatuporn Buruspat affirmed that the event delivered a significant boost to Chiang Mai’s trade sector and surrounding provinces. Lanna Expo 2025 as a whole attracted over 100,000 visitors and generated more than 126 million baht in trade value, with 45 million from direct sales and 81 million from anticipated future orders.The event was supported by more than 20 public and private agencies, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to regional economic development and connecting Thai businesses with global markets.
