Jirayu Provides Updates on Economic, Safety, and Cultural Initiatives Nationwide

The weekly “Voices from Thai Khu Fah” program, hosted by Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub on June 28, provided updates on national affairs, including economic progress, public safety, drug suppression, border management, and cultural developments.
The program opened with a report on improving trade negotiations with the United States, where Thailand has faced steep tariff barriers exceeding 30 percent. While outcomes are still pending, the government expects a positive shift for Thai exports. Attention then turned to a warning about advanced scams involving AI-generated voice cloning. Officials urged the public to be cautious of fraudulent calls impersonating trusted individuals and to verify any financial requests independently.
On the issue of narcotics, the program highlighted the growing use of disguised substances targeting youth. These include cannabis vapes, cannabis-infused drinks, and pastel-colored ecstasy shaped like candy. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has directed authorities to intensify enforcement and awareness efforts, especially in schools. A major drug seizure was also reported, with 2.4 tons of crystal methamphetamine intercepted by the Department of Special Investigation and the Royal Thai Navy near the eastern coast, indicating strong coordination across enforcement agencies.
Border security remains a pressing concern, with the Prime Minister recently visiting Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province to assess the situation at the Klong Luek checkpoint. Although essential travel remains permitted, restrictions continue for individuals linked to illicit activities. The Thai government clarified that border access has not been closed and is coordinating with neighboring authorities to prevent human trafficking and transnational scams.
Domestically, Thailand Post is collaborating with the Commerce Ministry to deliver over 3,000 tons of fruit to vendors nationwide, supporting farmers affected by export delays. This relief effort is intended to stabilize income for agricultural producers facing supply chain disruptions.
In tourism, Thailand is in discussions to host the world-renowned Tomorrowland music festival. If approved, the event would be held in Pattaya within one to two years. The government has expressed interest in incorporating Thai cultural elements into the festival and ensuring widespread local benefits.
The entertainment industry also received attention, with “Jurassic World Rebirth” set for release on July 2. Filmed in Krabi, Phang Nga, and Trang, the movie is expected to draw international interest to Thailand’s scenic locations and boost film-related tourism.
The Student Loan Fund Expo, scheduled for July 3 at Panyapiwat Institute of Management, will offer educational resources, job opportunities, and career support for students and jobseekers. The Cabinet meeting held earlier in the week covered several key issues. The Prime Minister ordered tighter regulations on cannabis use, with a shift back toward medical applications. Ministries were instructed to monitor developments in the Middle East and along national borders. Deputy Prime Minister Peeraphan Salirathavibhaga was assigned to oversee energy reserves and manage rising energy costs, while Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira was tasked with addressing economic stability and household debt.
Other directives included taking urgent action on illegal agricultural imports and promoting year-round tourism. The Ministry of Labor has been told to expedite plans for a minimum wage increase by July.
A 115 billion baht short-term stimulus package was also announced. Funding will support infrastructure upgrades, tourism site improvements, digital transition, and local development programs. Over seven million people are expected to benefit, with longer-term investments planned for inclusion in the 2026 national budget.
The program concluded with an update on solar energy incentives. Households can now claim up to 200,000 baht in personal income tax deductions for installing rooftop solar systems. Businesses are also eligible for a 150 percent deduction on energy-efficient equipment purchases.
In closing, Jirayu encouraged unity and resilience, calling on citizens to move forward together through both challenges and national progress.
