The Thai government has responded to allegations that Deputy Defense Minister Gen Natthaphon Narkphanit ordered troops to avoid engagement during the July 24 clashes with Cambodian forces, rejecting that any such directive was given. The claim, made by Gen Rangsi Kittiyarnsup of the Thai Economy Party, was based on a video clip that officials say originated from a separate incident during a previous conflict and has no connection to the current situation.
Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub stated that a full internal review had been conducted, confirming that military operations were carried out in full coordination with security agencies under the oversight of Gen Natthaphon in his role as head of the Ad Hoc Centre for the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation. Officials reaffirmed that there was no operational need or political instruction to stand down during the recent border tensions.
Jirayu also criticized the use of outdated interviews to mislead the public, referring to a May 7 statement made by Phumtham Wechayachai, then Minister of Defense and now Acting Prime Minister. That statement, which called for restraint in an earlier situation, has been circulated online in a way that misrepresents its original context.
Authorities reported that the current situation at the border has stabilized. Relief efforts are underway to assist affected communities, repair damaged infrastructure, and maintain public safety. The government is also working with international organizations to ensure that verified information about the conflict is shared accurately and promptly.
Officials called on all sides to refrain from political rhetoric that could increase tensions or create misunderstandings. In a time of national recovery and ongoing regional diplomacy, unity and responsible communication remain essential to protecting Thailand’s interests and supporting long-term peace.
