Amid Complaints, Senate Election Results Will Proceed

BANGKOK (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that the results of the Senate election will be announced as scheduled despite receiving numerous complaints, including 39 allegations of fraud. EC Secretary-General Sawang Boonmee reported that 333 complaints have been filed, 90 of which involve corruption.
According to Sawang, many complaints pertain to candidates with questionable backgrounds applying for professional groups for which they were not eligible. The EC has instructed officials and police to monitor activities that could involve election fraud before the final round of voting.
Although it is illegal for politicians or political parties to assist senatorial candidates, reports have indicated that certain political groups have attempted to interfere in the election process. Candidates are permitted to protest during the voting process and petition the court afterward but are urged not to disrupt the poll.
Officials have so far identified four potential irregularities, including candidates selling votes, political groups persuading candidates to join their network, outside parties booking hotel rooms for vote-selling meetings, and candidates being influenced to align with political groups.
The EC said it remains committed to ensuring a fair election process and maintaining the integrity of the Senate election results. The next steps will involve a thorough investigation and verification of all complaints.
