Deputy Minister of Commerce Suchart Chomklin led a senior trade delegation to Zurich on August 8 to meet with executives of Stutzer & Co. AG, one of Switzerland’s largest food importers. Acting on the direction of Commerce Minister Jatuporn Buruspat, the visit sought to promote Thai food products, expand import volumes, and increase the variety of goods available to Swiss consumers.
Suchart encouraged Swiss partners to take advantage of the Thailand–EFTA Free Trade Agreement, which has been signed and is undergoing ratification. Once implemented, the agreement is expected to help lower tariffs, improve the competitiveness of Thai goods in Switzerland, and create more opportunities for trade expansion and joint investment. The ministry assured that Thai exports will maintain strict quality standards for international markets.
Stutzer has been a Thai trade partner for over three decades, importing products such as rice, instant noodles, coconut milk, canned pineapple, sauces, and beverages. The company, founded in 1964, distributes more than 4,000 food products worldwide, with Thai goods accounting for 60–70% of its Asian imports. Its network serves supermarkets, Asian specialty stores, food service providers, and industrial clients across Switzerland.
In 2024, Thailand exported food products worth 135.93 billion baht to Switzerland, representing 36% of its total exports to the country. Key categories include canned food, rice, dried goods, frozen products, and beverages, all of which have shown steady growth. The ministry pledged support for promotional activities and advised businesses to contact the Office of Commercial Affairs in Frankfurt for assistance.
The Commerce Ministry plans to continue expanding trade through visits to South America and other markets to secure new partners.
