Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai issued several directives during the Cabinet meeting on July 22, addressing national unity, improved digital communication, and emergency preparedness amid ongoing severe weather. The gathering tabled measures to strengthen government coordination across agencies and plans to respond more effectively to current challenges.
To commemorate His Majesty the King’s birthday anniversary on July 28, the government has invited civil servants, state enterprises, private organizations, and the public to wear yellow clothing from July 28 to August 1. The gesture serves as a national expression of respect and unity during the royal birthday period.
Phumtham directed all government agencies to improve communication in the digital era. With social media playing a crucial role in shaping public perception, agencies must respond quickly to incidents, ensure accuracy, and track outcomes. Platforms such as Traffy Fondue, already in use in some areas, were identified as useful tools for public reporting and service requests. Agencies were also instructed to protect the confidentiality of informants in criminal cases and act swiftly to counter misinformation and online rumors.
To ensure clear messaging about government activities, public communication must be timely, accurate, and regularly updated. Prime Minister’s Office ministers and a team of government spokespersons will oversee coordination across ministries to lead a more proactive outreach effort.
In light of heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Wipha and ongoing monsoon conditions, Phumtham called for heightened disaster preparedness. Agencies such as the Thai Meteorological Department, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Department of Mineral Resources, and the Public Relations Department were instructed to issue timely, location-specific alerts via cell broadcasts and maintain ongoing communication with residents.
