Support Initiatives for Migrant Workers Unveiled

Thailand has announced relief measures for migrant workers with expired permits while also addressing Cambodia’s recent diplomatic move to take border issues to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Security Affairs Spokesperson for the Ad Hoc Centre for Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation, Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, revealed the results of the center’s latest meeting. He also disclosed border crossing statistics from June 7th to the present.
Under the Burapha Taskforce, nearly 212,800 people entered Thailand, and 206,100 departed. In the area managed by the Suranaree Taskforce, there were about 2,400 crossings.
To assist business operators affected by labor import issues, the Ministry of Interior will have a special policy for migrant workers whose permits have expired. These workers can remain in Thailand without paying any penalty until border checkpoints resume regular operating hours. After reopening, they will have 14 days to leave the country.
The Centre’s spokesperson for foreign affairs, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, addressed the diplomatic situation. She noted a letter from Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, dated June 16th. The letter informed the UN Secretary-General of Cambodia’s intent to file a case against Thailand at the ICJ.
In response, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed its UN representative to send a letter to the Secretary-General clarifying the facts and Thailand’s official position. The ministry requested that its letter be circulated as an official UN document to all 193 member states. The spokesperson confirmed that the government is actively managing the situation.
