Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has convened her first meeting with Thailand’s Trade Representatives to discuss their role in supporting the country’s economic goals. These representatives are responsible for strengthening international trade relations, negotiating Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and identifying new markets for Thai exports, all of which are part of the government’s plan to expand the country’s global trade presence.
The discussion focused on opportunities in key markets, including African nations such as Nigeria and the Middle East, with the latter showing strong demand for imports. Indonesia was also identified as a promising market for Thailand’s halal-certified products, given its large population and growing economy.
The gathering identified small and medium enterprises’ potential to engage in emerging industries like artificial intelligence, data centers, and clean energy. These sectors, which require skilled labor and technological expertise, are expected to play a growing role in the economy.
Paetongtarn stressed the importance of aligning education and training with the needs of future industries, highlighting international partnerships and technical training as key to developing the required skills.
