Minister of Commerce Jatuporn Buruspat has led a team of senior officials to Ubon Ratchathani province to assess the border trade situation and address challenges faced by local businesses. A meeting was held at Ubon Ratchathani City Hall, where customs officials and private sector representatives, including the provincial Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Industries, shared updates and recommendations.
Reports were presented on trade activity at the Chong Mek, Khemmarat, and Chong An Ma checkpoints. Business leaders raised concerns about logistical issues and inconsistent customs practices. In response, the Commerce Ministry pledged to coordinate across agencies to improve trade flow and ensure fair pricing of goods.
The delegation also reviewed challenges related to trade routes through the Lao PDR into Cambodia. Jatuporn instructed the Department of Foreign Trade to engage in talks with Lao authorities to resolve tax discrepancies and improve export access. Addressing falling cassava prices, the Ministry plans to work with the Ministry of Agriculture to monitor product standards and reduce input costs, especially for fertilizers and pesticides.
The agency is also rolling out assistance measures for businesses and farmers impacted by recent disruptions and international tax policy shifts. Under Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira’s leadership, the government will also launch the “Green Flag Products” campaign to help farmers lower production costs and remain competitive.
The visit concluded with a stop at two temporary shelter centers in Det Udom district, where officials distributed relief kits to over 1,000 evacuees.
