People’s Party Leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut has announced that the party will support Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul as Thailand’s 32nd prime ministerial candidate, contingent on several key conditions.
The primary conditions are that the new government must dissolve parliament within four months of announcing its policy and must achieve a consensus on amending the constitution. The People’s Party also stipulated that the Bhumjaithai-led government must remain a minority government and that the People’s Party will continue in the opposition. The agreement will take effect once Mr. Anutin formally accepts these terms.
Mr. Natthaphong reiterated that his party has maintained its stance since the beginning of the audio clip scandal that the best solution for the country is to dissolve parliament. He stated this would return power to the people and allow for the formation of a new, stable government.
