Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is visiting Nakhon Sawan province on Jan 13 to address longstanding issues of drought and flooding. Her visit will include a review of water management efforts at Bueng Boraphet and the distribution of land lease agreements under the government’s “Treasury Supports Citizens: Life-Changing Land Lease Agreements” project.
Bueng Boraphet, a vital freshwater lake and wetland in central Thailand, serves as a catchment area for the Ping, Wang, Yom, and Nan Rivers, which converge at Pak Nam Pho to form the Chao Phraya River. Spanning three districts, the lake has been identified as a priority for improving water storage and management to address recurring drought and flooding.
During her visit, the premier oversee efforts to enhance the region’s water management capacity by dredging canals, ponds, and reservoirs that have become shallow over time. These measures are intended to improve the lake’s ability to store water during the dry season and manage excess water during the rainy season, reducing the risk of future water-related crises.
The premier also presides over a ceremony at the multi-purpose building at Bueng Boraphet to hand over state property lease agreements to citizens. The program, established to support housing and agriculture, reaffirms the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and promoting self-sufficiency among residents.
Paetongtarn’s visit concludes with an inspection of water management facilities at the Nakhon Sawan Inland Fisheries Research and Development Center, a key entry point for water flowing into Bueng Boraphet from the Nan River.
