The Ministry of Commerce is set to hold discussions with logistics service providers and other industry representatives to address concerns over the growing presence of Chinese lorries operating in the country. The talks will involve key stakeholders, including the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai National Shippers’ Council, aiming to regulate foreign companies and prevent them from gaining an unfair advantage over Thai businesses.
The discussions come as the Foreign Trade Department continues to engage with Thai entrepreneurs across various sectors, such as ceramics, apparel, footwear, and construction materials, to mitigate the impact of foreign imports. The department is implementing trade remedies such as anti-dumping measures and countervailing duties to protect domestic industries while urging local businesses to adapt to the competitive landscape.
Inspections have also been conducted on businesses suspected of using Thai nominees to conceal foreign ownership, particularly in tourism, real estate, and logistics. The Department of Business Development is working to ensure compliance with the Foreign Business Act of 1999, which prohibits such practices.
In addition to regulatory measures, the department is supporting entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, by offering training in e-commerce, digital marketing, and product development to help them stay competitive in a rapidly changing business environment.
