Thaksin Shares Economic Vision at “Vision for Thailand 2024” Conference

During the “Vision for Thailand 2024” event, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra outlined his economic vision for the country, addressing a large audience that included ministers, business leaders, and executives.

Thaksin was warmly welcomed by prominent figures such as Dhanin Chearavanont, Keeree Kanjanapas, Sarath Ratanavadi, and Komol Jungrungreangkit.

In his speech, Thaksin stressed the urgent need to restore confidence in Thailand’s economy, which he described as severely damaged. He expressed concern over issues such as debt, youth drug addiction, and the high cost of living, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership to address these challenges. He urged Thai businesses to compete on the global stage and criticized the lack of a comprehensive strategy to solve the country’s problems.

Thaksin also discussed the digital wallet stipend project, acknowledging opposition but highlighting its potential to stimulate the economy and utilize blockchain technology for widespread benefits. He is of the opinion that, with an additional 145 billion baht allocated for the project, the next step should prioritize distributing a 10,000-baht stipend to 14.5 million vulnerable individuals as part of an initial economic stimulus in September 2024.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for effective leadership to tackle the nation’s challenges, particularly in restructuring household and business debt. Thaksin also hinted at the possibility of the government issuing bonds to retail investors in the future, underscoring the importance of precise and targeted economic solutions.
