A new agreement aims to strengthen long-term healthcare collaboration between Thailand and the Maldives.

The Cabinet approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Maldives. The draft outlines a framework for bilateral cooperation in health, including primary health services in the Maldives, academic exchanges with training institutes, human resource development, and sustainable financing for health promotion.

The MoU also allows for activities such as information sharing, expert exchanges, training, seminars, and joint workshops. It will be effective for three years from the date of signing and will automatically extend for another three years unless either side notifies termination in writing at least three months in advance via diplomatic channels.

The signing is scheduled to take place during the 78th World Health Assembly from May 19th to 27th, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Health Systems Research Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviewed the MoU. While not considered an international treaty or binding under Thai constitutional law, it was classified as a matter of international relations requiring Cabinet endorsement under the 2005 Royal Decree on Cabinet Procedures.
