BANGKOK (NNT) – The Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) and Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA) have recently introduced a groundbreaking process for recycling PVC-contaminated plastic waste.
The new method, developed through collaboration between SCG Chemicals of Thailand and Israeli startup Plastic Back, utilizes superoxide processes to transform waste into naphtha oil.
This is the first use of such technology in Thailand, with the goal of providing a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to fossil-based naphtha. The initiative, facilitated by the Israeli Embassy’s Economic and Trade Mission, has been praised by Orna Sagiv, Israel’s Ambassador to Thailand.
NIA Executive Director Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng emphasized the significance of this collaboration, mentioning that the partnership originated from a 2018 memorandum of understanding between the IIA and NIA. The project showcases the successful integration of Israeli technological innovation with Thai industrial expertise.
SCG Chief Innovation Office Dr. Suracha Udomsak and Plastic Back Co-Founder and CEO Tal Binder Cohen elaborated on the technology’s capacity for high recycling rates and its contribution to environmental sustainability. They outlined plans to implement this technology across Thailand, supporting SCGC’s objectives towards establishing a circular economy.
