China and five ASEAN nations to step up efforts to crack down online fraud

Xinhua News Agency citing a statement from China’s Ministry of Public Security, reported that law enforcement officials from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand held an in-depth meeting on strengthening cross-border cooperation in Kunming, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, on Friday. They agreed to intensify joint efforts to crack down on transnational telecommunications and online fraud.

China and the five ASEAN member states will carry out coordinated cross-border operations, establish consistent coordination mechanisms, enhance intelligence sharing, and continuously repatriate perpetrators of fraud to their countries of origin.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Public Security has stressed that Chinese police will strengthen international cooperation, including cracking down on fraud hubs and pursuing suspects for prosecution.
