Prime Minister to visit Northeast for water management and tourism discussions.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, accompanied by Teerarat Samrejvanich and Jiraporn Sindhuprai, will visit Khon Kaen and Maha Sarakham provinces tomorrow (Dec 20th) to review government policies. The focus will include water management strategies and key development projects to address regional challenges and promote growth.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will oversee plans for managing droughts and floods at the Huai Nam Khem D5 floodgate in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham Province. Officials from the Royal Irrigation Department will brief her on efforts to mitigate flooding in the Chi River Basin and enhance long-term water management.

In Maha Sarakham, the Prime Minister will review progress on the “One District, One Scholarship (ODOS)” program and the site of the village and urban community development project at Maha Sarakham University. The ODOS program provides scholarships for gifted students, while the community development project focuses on grassroots economic development. Both initiatives align with government priorities for equitable education and local development.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will preside over the opening of the “Onson Long Drum Festival” in Wapi Pathum District. This event highlights Maha Sarakham’s cultural heritage and forms part of the government’s strategy to boost tourism through local traditions and activities.

The festival, celebrating the long drum tradition, is a central feature of Maha Sarakham’s cultural identity. It supports the government’s efforts to integrate regional culture into the national economic agenda, attracting both domestic and international visitors.
