Thailand Advocates BCG Vision at APEC Summit

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra concluded her participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru, presenting Thailand’s vision based on three key pillars: creating opportunities for all, promoting regional economic integration, and advancing the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy. These priorities align with Thailand’s strategies to drive innovation, sustainable development, and regional cooperation, strengthening trade and investment ties.
During the summit, Paetongtarn detailed plans to integrate digital technology, support vulnerable populations through targeted economic reforms, and advance the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific. Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065 and urged APEC economies to transition to renewable energy and establish a shared carbon credit market, in line with the Bangkok Goals on the BCG Economy adopted in 2022.
In bilateral meetings, Paetongtarn and Peru’s President Dina Boluarte discussed progress on a Thailand-Peru Free Trade Agreement and opportunities to strengthen trade connectivity through Peru’s Chancay Port and Thailand’s Land Bridge Project. Discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, deepening economic collaboration, and addressing mutual challenges such as cross-border crime. China also pledged support for Thailand’s BRICS membership and cultural exchanges, including the enshrinement of the Sacred Buddha Relic in Bangkok.
Advisor to the Prime Minister Jirayu Huangsap stated that the summit allowed Thailand to engage meaningfully with global business leaders and APEC member economies, reaffirming its readiness for investment in high-growth sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and data centers.
