The bustling Phasi Sung fresh market in Chainat

The atmosphere at Phasi Sung Fresh Market in Mueang District, Chainat Province, a major commercial hub in the heart of the city, has become lively again after the government began disbursing the second installment of the “Thai Helps Thai Plus” project, amounting to 1,000 baht per month for July 2026 , to the public. Many people were seen continuously purchasing essential goods for their daily lives.

However, given the current economic climate where consumer goods prices remain high despite falling oil prices, people are becoming more cautious in their spending. They are planning their purchases carefully, buying only essential household items to get the most value for their money.

Ms. Wilai Thapruang, or “Jae Toy,” owner of a stall selling chilies, garlic, shallots, and seasonings in the Phasi Sung fresh market, revealed that this project has had a clear positive impact on the overall market. Her sales have more than doubled compared to the usual quiet period. Most customers choose to buy ingredients that have a long shelf life and are commonly used in their kitchens. She considers it a successful project that has brought tangible results and smiles to both buyers and sellers. Although concerned about the project only lasting four months, she believes it is a crucial mechanism to help sustain people’s purchasing power during this economic slowdown.

Shoppers at the event expressed similar opinions, stating that the project is extremely beneficial in reducing household expenses. They can purchase fresh and dried goods, as well as essential items, saving a significant amount of money. Therefore, they urge the government to consider extending the project or implementing similar measures continuously to alleviate hardship and assist the public in the long term.
